Self-Exclusion: What It Binds and What It Leaves Open
Self-exclusion is the strongest instrument a player controls, and also the most misread. It is not a pause, not a mood, and not a feature that can be switched back off. What you commit to, the operator has to honour — which is exactly why it is worth knowing in advance how far it reaches, what falls outside it, and what happens when the other side breaks it.
What it stops
An exclusion closes access to the account for the chosen period: no login, no deposit, no wagering. The operator must also stop sending promotional material to you, so newsletters and personalised offers should cease. The duration is normally measured in months or years, in contrast to the few days of a cooling-off break described on the responsible gambling page.
With a Hungarian licensee the protection is wider. The SZTFH player-protection framework includes a central register of self-limitation and self-exclusion that Hungarian licensees are required to observe, which is the only arrangement here that reaches beyond a single brand.
What it does not stop
- Other companies' sites. A block requested at one operator applies by default to that brand alone. Coverage across sister brands exists only where group policy or a central register provides it.
- Unlicensed operators. Sites outside the national register sit outside the national protection system entirely. The gap between a licensed and an unlicensed operator becomes tangible at precisely the moment protection is most needed.
- Third-party advertising. The operator can silence its own communications; it cannot remove search advertising or content published by affiliates.
- Financial consequences already incurred. An exclusion does not touch existing debt. If play created one, that has to be addressed separately.
Money on the account
Real-money balances are normally paid out under the usual procedure after the block takes effect — which requires verification to be complete already. Active bonuses, free spins and partial wagering progress, by contrast, are generally forfeited and do not return when the period ends. If a bonus is open, ask in writing what will happen to it before you confirm; the reply is evidence later.
Why early reversal is refused
The impossibility of early reversal is the design, not a defect. Support has no authority to lift it, and rewording the request changes nothing. After expiry, most operators do not reopen an account automatically: a separate, conscious step is needed, often with a further waiting period attached. That friction is doing deliberate work.
When the operator breaches the exclusion
It happens that a login still works during an exclusion, or that a fresh account can be opened with the same details. That is not an inconvenience — it is a failure to honour an agreed restriction, and it stands as an independent ground for complaint. The order of operations:
- Preserve the evidence: the confirmation of the exclusion, the timestamps of logins and deposits, and the transaction references.
- File a written complaint under the operator's complaints procedure, naming the breach explicitly rather than describing it as a technical glitch.
- Request the ticket reference and the response deadline, and note when that deadline falls.
- If nothing is remedied, escalate to the authority that issued the licence or the dispute body named in the terms. The complaints page maps the sequence.
Competence depends on where the licence was issued. With a Hungarian licensee the SZTFH player-protection framework applies; with an unlicensed operator the Hungarian authority will not adjudicate an individual financial dispute at all.
What not to do
Do not open a new account under a different email or in a relative's name. That breaks your own decision and the terms simultaneously, and afterwards there is nothing left to argue: forfeiting the balance becomes a contractually clean step for the operator. If the pull is strong, use technical barriers — transaction blocks at the bank, device-level blocking software, and one person who knows about the decision.
Three things to settle first
Before confirming, finish verification so the balance can actually be paid out, ask in writing what happens to any open bonus, and save the correspondence. If a short break is all that is needed, limits and a cooling-off period are the more reversible option, described on the responsible gambling page, with the contractual background on the terms page.

Where to find support
A block is an instrument, not a solution. Locally, a general practitioner and addiction care services are the entry points; internationally, Gambling Therapy and Gamblers Anonymous offer free and anonymous support. We publish no telephone numbers, because helpline details change — check them on each service's own site. This site is an independent guide and not the operator: we cannot register, lift or amend an exclusion.
